Newcastle United have been chasing the signature of Atalanta star Robin Gosens – and the Serie A club are allegedly coming around to the idea of selling.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Atalanta have given Gosens ‘multiple offers’ to extend his contract.
Gosens is out of contract in 2024 and Atalanta have been desperate to extend that agreement, but they can’t strike a deal.
With that in mind, it’s claimed that Atalanta are in fact ‘opening’ to the idea of selling Gosens.
Atalanta are though waiting for Newcastle to make their first official bid for Gosens; after all, you can’t sell a player without a bid on the table!
Reports linking Gosens with started over the weekend, with Tuttomercatoweb claiming that terms had been agreed over a three-year deal.
Newcastle were were allegedly planning to pay Gosens €3.5million-a-year, which works out to around £56,000-a-week.
It’s one thing having a rough agreement with a player’s representatives, but striking a deal with Atalanta is something else entirely.
Snapped up from Heracles Almelo in 2017, Gosens has been something of a late developer having only really hit mainstream attention in the last couple of years.
The 27-year-old is an outstanding attacking left wing back, racking up 12 goals and eight assists last season.
Gosens excelled for Germany at Euro 2020, but this season has been difficult. Injuries mean Gosens hasn’t played since September.

That makes Gosens something of a risk for Newcastle, as they need players who can make an instant impact in the battle against relegation.
Newcastle are in the market for a left back having opened talks for Bayer Leverkusen’s Mitchel Bakker.
Bakker is a conventional left back, but Gosens doesn’t really play in that role in a back four.
Instead, Gosens plays as a wing back, high up the pitch. To do that, Eddie Howe could have to switch Newcastle to playing three at the back.
If Newcastle want to sign Gosens as a left back, they may find that he isn’t quite what they’re seeking – and that’s something they simply have to consider against the backdrop of natural left backs being wanted.
