Newcastle United have ruled out a move for Italy boss Roberto Mancini, believing that he is too high maintenance to work in their structure.

That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (17/10, p71), who claim that Newcastle will focus on appointing an out-of-work manager once Steve Bruce goes.

Both Mancini and compatriot Antonio Conte have allegedly been ruled out of the running, with both seems as ‘too high-maintenance’.

You can certainly understand that notion with Conte, but maybe not so much Mancini.

One TV mobster may suggest that this is ‘a stereotype, and it’s offensive’… but PIF won’t be minded to think about Tony Soprano any time soon.

Mancini to Newcastle could have worked

Mancini may not want to leave his post with Italy any time soon. He won Euro 2020 this summer and signed a lengthy new contract too.

The 56-year-old is a popular figure in England. Well, he was before beating the Three Lions in the Euro 2020 final anyway.

A former Leicester City player who ended up capturing the hearts of Manchester City fans, Mancini is suave, talks well and has been a success in most jobs.

Mancini even has experience that Newcastle would like. He worked in Manchester City’s exciting new project back in 2009, helping take the club from hopefuls to Premier League champions.

That’s what Newcastle are looking for after their takeover, but it looks like the main man won’t be Mancini.
