Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce may have now taken charge of his final game at the club, losing 3-2 at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Magpies have finally been taken over after a lengthy pursuit from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

The PCP Capital Partners as well as RB Sports & Media are involved too, sparking a new era at Newcastle.

Yet with Bruce still in charge and no signings possible until January, the new Newcastle looked a lot like the old one on Sunday.

The 3-2 defeat to Tottenham started well with an opener from Callum Wilson, but quickly went wrong.

That was Bruce’s 1000th game in management, but likely his last at Newcastle. Many are expecting a change soon, and Richard Keys has made a shock suggestion.

Keys backs Mark Hughes for Newcastle

That’s right, beIN SPORTS presenter Keys has suggested that Mark Hughes is the man for the job.

The same Mark Hughes that has been out of management for almost three years.

The same Mark Hughes that lost 12 of 27 in charge of Southampton.

The same Mark Hughes that left Stoke City in the Premier League relegation zone.

Newcastle need new ideas, a fresh approach. Appointing Hughes – ironically Bruce’s old Manchester United teammate – doesn’t do that.

Former Manchester City man and current pundit Nigel de Jong actually stated ‘that’s a good shout’ when Keys tipped Hughes for the job.

De Jong worked under Hughes at the Etihad Stadium and seemingly thinks he would be great for Newcastle.

The Welshman is experienced and knows about managing a club after a takeover, but that’s about as far as it goes.

Hughes isn’t what Newcastle need in a post-Bruce world. They need hope and excitement rather than a manager that the Premier League has seemingly forgotten about.
