Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s previous comments on him will be hugely encouraging for the St. James’ Park faithful.
According to AllNigeriaSoccer, Newcastle want to sign Iheanacho from Premier League rivals Leicester in the summer transfer window.
The Magpies want to sign a new striker this summer and have identified the former City player as a potential target, according to the report.
Joelinton has struggled at Newcastle this season, with the 23-year-old striker having scored just two goals in 35 Premier League matches, according to WhoScored.
Iheanacho is a very experienced striker who is rated very highly, and what Guardiola said about him when he was his manager at City will encourage the Newcastle fans.
The Cable quoted Guardiola as saying about Iheanacho on May 12, 2017: “Kelechi is a young player – a killer in the box. He is strong and fast.”
Good signing for Newcastle United?
With Sergio Aguero ahead of him in the pecking order at City, Iheanacho struggled to play regular first-team football under Guardiola, and at Leicester, he has Jamie Vardy to compete with.
However, if made the first-choice striker, played to his strengths and given a run of games, he could prove to be a regular goalscorer for Newcastle.
Moreover, Iheanacho is only 23 years of age, and the Nigeria international striker will only get better and improve in the coming years.
