Newcastle United are reportedly set to snub the chance to sign Stoke City’s Joe Allen.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United are likely to pass on a £20million pursuit for Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen this summer in favour of spending on other areas.
The Magpies secured their first summer signing earlier this evening as they sealed a permanent deal for goalkeeper Martin Dubravka following his successful loan move from Sparta Prague in January.
Newcastle now need to focus on other incomings, but they look set to pass on the possibility to sign one of the top relegated stars this summer.

The Chronicle report that Newcastle could sign Stoke City’s Joe Allen for around £20million, but the Magpies are set to ignore that opportunity in order to spend their money on other positions.
Welsh international Allen, 28, has hit eight goals and eight assists in the Premier League since joining from Liverpool in the summer of 2016, and whilst he won’t be keen to play in the Championship, Newcastle seemingly won’t be making a move.
Manager Rafael Benitez may be keen to bring in a right back, winger and a striker, but he may be putting too much belief in Mohamed Diame’s 2018 form.

The Senegalese midfielder has been superb since the turn of the year, starring in midfield alongside Jonjo Shelvey in what has been his most purple patch since a 2016 move from Hull City.
However, Diame has never been the most consistent player, and passing on a proven, steady Premier League performer like Allen to focus on the hit-and-miss Diame may come back to bite Benitez next season.
