Newcastle United continue to be linked with Renato Sanches – and have allegedly ramped up their interest in signing the Lille midfielder.

You can expect to see Newcastle being linked with everybody under the sun thanks to PIF’s takeover.

Sanches is another name in the mix for Newcastle with another midfield addition expected this summer.

Yes, Newcastle raided French football to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon in January but Sanches could join him in Eddie Howe’s engine room.

But! Football Club in France reported on Thursday that Newcastle are ‘starting to look closely’ at signing Sanches this summer.

An alternative is believed to be Lens star Seko Fofana with Newcastle seemingly zeroing in on Ligue 1 as the league to raid for a new midfielder.

It is though added that ‘wacky figures’ are circulating in terms of what Sanches would want in order to leave Lille.

Newcastle have the money to meet those demands but they’re far from alone in the race to sign the Portuguese international star.

Sport Mediaset report today that AC Milan are negotiating to ‘snatch’ Sanches this summer alongside Lille defender Sven Botman.

That means Newcastle face a real struggle in their move to sign Sanches given that Milan will seemingly have Champions League football on offer.

Milan sit top of Serie A and being able to dine at European football’s top table again will give them a certain power over Newcastle in the transfer market.

Newcastle may still hold hope of signing Sanches, who was branded ‘terrific’ by former Magpies ace Jermaine Jenas.

Yet with Milan making their move, it may well be that Newcastle have to turn to Fofana in search of a box-to-box midfielder this summer.
