Newcastle United want to sign Fran Garcia but will seemingly face a fight with Real Madrid for the Rayo Vallecano star in 2023.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who suggest that Rayo ace Garcia is a ‘prime target’ for the January transfer window.

Newcastle signed both Dan Burn and Matt Targett in the January window of this year and they have been splitting time at left back.

Neither Burn nor Targett appear to be the long-term solution at left back for Newcastle though and the Magpies could make another signing there.

Garcia could fit the bill for Newcastle but the Magpies will face a battle for his signature.

Defensa Central report that Real Madrid are interested in re-signing Garcia at the end of the season, either to offer competition for Ferland Mendy or replace him.

It’s also claimed that Real still own 50% of Garcia’s rights, so the €10million (£8.8million) release clause will only cost Real €5million (£4.4million).

Who is Newcastle United target Fran Garcia?

Garcia, 23, joined the Real Madrid ranks in 2013 having previously been on the books at Bolanos.

Garcia worked his way up to become a regular for Real Madrid B, but only made one first-team appearance for Los Blancos.

A loan move to Rayo materialised for the 2020-21 season and that was turned permanent in 2021.

The former Spain youth international is shining in La Liga and unsurprisingly attracting major interest.

A diminutive left back at 5ft 6in tall, Garcia is the complete opposite to Newcastle ace Burn.

Attack-minded with blistering pace and quality in the final third, Garcia has bagged two assists in 14 games this season.

You can see why Newcastle would be interested in Garcia but Real are likely to have the advantage in his transfer race.
