Newcastle United fancy Rasmus Hojlund as they again look to the Austrian market having missed out on signing Benjamin Sesko from Red Bull Salzburg.
The Magpies were keen on signing Sesko this summer having been impressed with his displays at Salzburg.
Unfortunately for Newcastle, they have missed out with Sesko instead heading to Salzburg’s sister club RB Leipzig earlier this week.
Newcastle remain in the hunt for a striker and may actually stay hunting in the Austrian market for new firepower.
Newcastle United fancy Rasmus Hojlund
The Athletic now report that Newcastle have been tracking Sturm Graz attacker Hojlund and he’s on their list of potential striking additions.
It’s so far unclear whether Newcastle will actually make a bid right now though, with Hojlund maybe one for the future.
Hojlund, 19, was in the ranks of Brondby and Holbaek in his native Denmark before heading to Copenhagen.
Five goals in 32 games for Copenhagen’s first team showed Hojlund’s promise, and a surprise move to Austria materialised in January of this year.
Hojlund has been something of a goal machine for Sturm Graz, bagging 10 goals and three assists in 18 appearances.
Boss Christian Ilzer has hailed Hojlund, praising him as ‘fantastic’ earlier this year.
The Danish teenager is a huge presence at 6ft 4in tall and has quick feet as well as a decent turn of pace.
Hojlund looks like become a star of the future and Newcastle are now eyeing up as a potential addition.
Newcastle have been seeking a young striker this summer with Sesko, Hugo Ekitike and Sekou Mara among those mentioned.
Developing a young hitman behind experienced goalscorers Chris Wood and Callum Wilson sounds like the perfect blend for the Magpies.
Newcastle may have missed out on Sesko but they could still land a top young striker for the coming years in Hojlund – if they make their move this summer.
