Ralf Rangnick has been put forward to Newcastle United as a potential appointment as director football in their new regime.
That’s according to The Chronicle, who claim that Rangnick has emerged as a possible target following Newcastle’s big takeover.
The Saudi-led consortium completed their protracted takeover of Newcastle on Thursday, meaning big spending is coming to St James’ Park.
A new manager and a host of new signings are expected, and so is a director of football as Newcastle chase key additions throughout the club.
Rangnick recently took a job as Lokomotiv Moscow’s head of sports and development, having left the Red Bull football operation.
However, Rangnick is understood to be interested in trading that role for the Newcastle job in the near future.
Newcastle target Rangnick inspired Klopp
Rangnick was an impressive coach with Hoffenheim and Schalke but has turned to more of a director of football in recent times.
Still, his ideology of football has been important to many coaches – including Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp’s former Mainz teammate Guido Schaefer has suggested that Rangnick’s philosophy ‘inspired’ Klopp, with the now-LIverpool hero wanting to emulate his style of play.
If Rangnick takes on a key role at Newcastle, you can expect the next manager to be similar to Klopp.
