Newcastle United are leading the race for Axel Disasi despite interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Axel Disasi is a man in demand with Newcastle United now seemingly ahead of Manchester United in the race for his signature.
That is according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who claims that Newcastle are in ‘concrete talks’ to sign Disasi.
Plettenberg claims that Newcastle are ‘pushing a lot’ for Disasi’s signature with negotiations now ongoing.
Manchester United are thought to have explored a move but can’t yet make a move as they wait to sell players first.
United want to offload Harry Maguire before bringing in a new defender, leaving Newcastle ‘in the lead’ to sign Disasi.

Axel Disasi to Newcastle United reports are ramping up
Disasi has become a prime name in the Newcastle United rumour mill over the last week.
Fabrizio Romano reported last week that Newcastle had made an approach to snap up Disasi.
Romano added that Erik ten Hag had approved a Manchester United move for Disasi but that Newcastle were pushing.
Football Transfers then went a step further, suggesting that Disasi had already agreed personal terms with Newcastle.
The Magpies may see Disasi as the ideal competition for Fabian Schar on the right side of Eddie Howe’s back line.
That would free up Jamaal Lascelles to move on and get game time elsewhere whilst adding more quality for their Champions League return.

Who is Newcastle target Disasi?
Disasi emerged in the Paris FC ranks and made just four first-team appearances before moving on to Reims in 2016.
The 6ft 3in centre back spent a while in their B team before really shining as a first-team player in the 2019-20 season.
That campaign sparked major interest and Monaco pounced for a £12million deal ahead of Arsenal.
Now 25, Disasi has become one of the top centre backs in Ligue 1 and has even chipped in with 10 goals across his 129 appearances.
A French international who even featured at right back during the World Cup, Disasi is a real physical presence and has shown some ability playing out from the back.
Newcastle will now hope to find an agreement with Monaco quickly – before Manchester United can make a move of their own.
