Arsenal claimed a late 2-1 win over Newcastle last night, but the game ended on a sour note.
Arsenal captain Robin van Persie and Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul had been waging a running battle all game last night, and when the row flared up in the final moments it was no surprise.
Newcastle were clearly aggrieved to have lost the game to such a late, late goal from Thomas Vermaelen, and emotions were running high.
Van Persie had been frustrated what he perceived as time-wasting from fellow Dutchman Krul all night, and was accused of gloating after Arsenal’s winner.
Newcastle youngster Sammy Ameobi took to Twitter minutes after the game to criticise the Arsenal striker.
“Poor from RvP;” he tweeted, shortly after the final whistle.
Ameobi is currently injured and did not feature last night, but his older brother Shola came on as a second half substitute.
Was he right? Did Van Persie let himself down?
The striker was booked by Howard Webb for his actions, who clearly deemed the striker to have acted unsportingly.
England fans will be hoping that Van Persie and Krul carry on their row at Euro 2012, Dutch squads are renowned for their arguments at major tournaments, and this could be the start of a headache for Bert van Marwijk.
