Newcastle United are interested in giving Brentford’s Phil Giles a dream move to St James’ Park after the club’s big takeover.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Newcastle have Giles on their wish list as they seek a new sporting director.

Newcastle’s huge takeover went through on Thursday, with fans now expecting big names and big spending.

A new manager is expected, and the Saudi-led owners will also seek to bring in a sporting director oversee all football operations.

Giles is believed to be one of the options having helped Brentford’s rise in recent years.

Giles joined Brentford in 2015, playing a key role in their eventual promotion.

Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma, Neal Maupay and Ezri Konsa are just some of Brentford’s success stories on Giles’ watch.

Giles has strong ties to Newcastle

If any club can tempt Giles away from this exciting Brentford side, it could be Newcastle.

Giles was born in Newcastle, went to university in Newcastle and even had a Newcastle season ticket.

This is Giles’ club. He knows the club, the area, the fanbase. Giles would bring a real local touch to this incredible Newcastle project.

The remit would be different – this wouldn’t be so much about finding young talent to sell for profit, more about signing big players to take Newcastle from strength to strength.

This could be a dream come true for Giles, though there are other candidates in the mix for Newcastle.
