Newcastle United could be closing in on making Paulo Fonseca their new manager – and that just makes their interest in Manor Solomon even more realistic.

The Magpies have parted ways with Steve Bruce and must now find a replacement for him as they attempt to properly start their new era.

A number of names have been linked with the job, but it now sounds like Fonseca is the favourite.

Fonseca to Newcastle?

Reports from The Telegraph emerged last week suggesting that Fonseca is the preferred appointment of Amanda Staveley.

The Telegraph then added that Fonseca could pen a £6million-a-year deal with Newcastle.

Sacked by Roma at the end of last season, Fonseca is out of work and available to come in now.

An attack-minded manager, Fonseca would be a far cry from Steve Bruce but still a gamble – especially with this Newcastle defence.

Fabrizio Romano has now told Que Golazo that Fonseca is ready to accept a contract offer and take the Newcastle job in the coming days.

Reunion with Arsenal target Solomon?

If the Fonseca rumours are true, then Newcastle being linked with Shakhtar Donetsk ace Manor Solomon makes a lot of sense.

Walla in Israel reported last week that Newcastle have added Solomon to their wish list for January.

Solomon was signed at Shakhtar under Fonseca, who called the Israeli winger ‘wonderful’.

Arsenal have wanted Solomon for a while. The Guardian reported in January that Arsenal fancied signing the 22-year-old, who has been likened to Eden Hazard.

Sport Arena then claimed that a £17million summer bid was rejected, with Arsenal unable to bring Solomon to North London in the end.

Fonseca could look to make Solomon his first Newcastle signing in a big reunion, adding more creativity and flair to his attacking options.

In the process, Fonseca could instantly kill off Arsenal’s hopes of landing Solomon, bringing an end to a long-term pursuit.
