Newcastle United are set to snatch Paul Midgley away from Manchester City – just months after he decided to quit Leeds United.
The Magpies have been making moves to bolster their recruitment ranks.
Dan Ashworth was the big move, luring him away from Brighton and Hove Albion to become Newcastle’s sporting director.
Newcastle even brought in Andy Howe – the brother of manager Eddie Howe – for a scouting position at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United are set to land Paul Midgley
Newcastle aren’t done just yet though and they have another move in the pipeline.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester City’s Paul Midgley is set for a move to Newcastle.
It’s claimed that Midgley will now head to St James’ Park to become Newcastle’s new Head of Youth Recruitment moving forward.
Romano claims that na agreement is now ‘in place’ and the deal is ‘done’ with Midgley heading to the North East.
This is a blow for City, who only managed to secure Midgley themselves over the summer.
The Athletic reported that Midgley left his post as Leeds United’s head of national academy recruitment over the summer in order to join City.
Midgley was vital for recruiting under-16’s at Leeds and traded that in to become a northern youth scot for City.
Yet just a matter of months later, Midgley has already decided to leave the Etihad Stadium and take up a role with Newcastle instead.
This means a return to the North East for Midgley, who previously held a recruitment role in the Sunderland academy.
Landing Midgley may not make huge headlines but this is another sign of Newcastle’s pulling power.
We’re used to City having the pick of the best in class at all levels and they will have felt they had landed a top talent spotter in Midgley.
Newcastle are now making real moves though and can clearly challenge City with Midgley already believing that the Magpies are a better bet for his future.
