Paul Merson has predicted on SportsKeeda that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will keep Eddie Howe as the Newcastle United head coach beyond the summer of 2022.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Howe has done a wonderful job at Newcastle so far, and that PIF will back him with transfer funds in the summer of 2022.

Newcastle are 14th in the Premier League table at the moment with 25 points from 25 matches, four points above the bottom three.

Merson wrote on on SportsKeeda: “As I said earlier, I wouldn’t have fancied them for even a point a month ago, but now, I can’t see Newcastle not winning this game (against Brighton and Hove Albion).

“The crowd will be right behind them, which is always the case at St. James’ Park, so I expect them to get maximum points in front of their own fans.

“Eddie Howe has done a great job since taking charge – I think he’ll be kept at the club and backed adequately this summer once again after an impressive haul in the January transfer window.”

Eddie Howe to stay at Newcastle United?

In our view, PIF are not going to change their manager in the summer of 2022 and will keep Howe in the hotseat.

Unless, of course, the former Bournemouth boss himself wants to leave at the end of the season, which is unlikely.

If Newcastle get relegated, then PIF will know that they have a manager in Howe who knows the Championship and can get the team back up.

If the Magpies retain their Premier League status for next season, then we think that PIF will continue with Howe as the head coach.

Howe has a good track record in the Premier League with Bournemouth.

And, in our opinion, the Englishman could take the Magpies from a team struggling for survival to a side who can finish in the top 10 next season.
