Ajax director of football Marc Overmars is now in talks to make a move to Newcastle United with the Magpies stepping up their interest.
That’s according to The Mirror, who report that Newcastle’s new owners have made contact with Overmars to thrash out a move.
It’s added that two intermediaries working on Newcastle’s behalf have spoken to Overmars about a move to Tyneside.
Overmars is now interested in making the move to Newcastle, which would be a huge coup for this new era at St James’ Park.
Overmars is also allegedly keen to bring Ajax boss Erik ten Hag with with him as Newcastle’s next boss after Steve Bruce’s exit.
How has Newcastle target Overmars fared at Ajax?
Fans in England may know Overmars more as a player with Arsenal, but he has masterminded Ajax’s business for many years.
Overmars was appointed as director of football in 2012 and has sold players for big cash since then.

Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld, Daley Blind, Arkadiusz Milik, Davinson Sanchez, Davy Klaassen, Justin Kluivert, Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt, Kasper Dolberg, Hakim Ziyech, Donny van de Beek and Sergino Dest have all been sold for big fees.
Some of those players came through the Ajax ranks, but others have been brought in by Overmars.
Football.London claim that Overmars has sold £550m worth of players at Ajax.
Add in current talents like that David Neres, Antony and Mohammed Kudus are now worth millions and Newcastle will be hoping to see Overmars find similar quality.
