Newcastle United are currently top of the Championship, while Aston Villa are in 15th place.
Don Goodman has told Sky Sports that he believes Aston Villa’s transfer business was every bit as good as Newcastle United’s.
Villa are currently in 15th place in the Championship table, while Newcastle are leading the way in the second tier.
The pair, who were both relegated from the Premier League last season, were both active last summer – as they attempted to inject quality in their squad.

Newcastle brought in the likes of Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle and DeAndre Yedlin – and they have all gone on to have positive impacts at St. James’ Park.
Villa, meanwhile, signed players such as Jonathan Kodjia, Ross McCormack and Mile Jedinak, as they attempted to strengthen their squad.
And Goodman said: “Personally, I think the recruitment done at Villa was good in the summer, perhaps later than Newcastle, but on a par with them.”

It is widely recognised that Newcastle and Villa have two of the strongest squads in the Championship, but Rafael Benitez’s side have certainly coped the better of the pair.
Newcastle already appear to be near-certainties to get promoted this season, despite a slight dip in form recently.
Villa, on the other hand, are playing catch up in the race for the play offs – and are under pressure to start collecting victories to close the gap on the top six.
