Newcastle United have been keeping tabs on Everton midfielder Amadou Onana ahead of a potential future move.

Amadou Onana remains a target for Newcastle United as Sandro Tonali prepares to learn his suspension fate.

That is according to iNews, who claim that Newcastle are expecting a quiet January transfer window.

The Magpies are going well in the Premier League and demolished Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

It’s all going well for Eddie Howe right now and Newcastle seemingly aren’t planning to splash the cash in January.

Newcastle United keeping tabs on Amadou Onana

Newcastle may keep an eye on midfield additions though with Sandro Tonali facing a while out of the game.

Tonali is now expected to be suspended for 10 months due to an investigation into gambling over in Italy.

That will leave Newcastle a man down in midfield and could lead to a signing in 2024.

Manchester City ace Kalvin Phillips is one target with a loan move potentially working out perfectly for all parties.

The report also notes that Newcastle are also monitoring Everton midfielder Amadou Onana for a potential move.

Onana would likely command a huge fee, so many this is one for next summer – but Newcastle appear to be interested in the giant Belgian.

My view: Onana can become a Premier League star

Onana has plenty of attractive attributes; he has a huge frame, he has shown his range to get from box to box and can develop his game in the coming years given that is just 22.

Just watch Saturday’s game at Liverpool and you can see the all-action nature of Onana’s game, contributing at both ends of the pitch.

Hailed as a ‘super talent’ by Belgian reporter Frank Raes, Onana cost Everton £33million in 2022 and they will surely demand a huge profit.

That won’t really suit Newcastle in January but this may be a signing for next summer with Howe maybe believing that he can become a star.

Onana certainly has that potential in his game and it is no surprise that Newcastle are now looking at him as a real target to bolster their midfield.
