Newcastle United are not giving up on signing Southampton defender Tino Livramento this summer.

That is according to one report from ChronicleLive.

The outlet states that Southampton are standing firm over their valuation of Tino Livramento, which is around £40m.

However, it is thought that while Newcastle are unwilling to meet those demands, the Tyneside club have not been deterred and are still chasing the right-back.

Last month, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook reported that Newcastle had a second bid rejected for Livramento, so he appears to be a player who Eddie Howe really wants at St James’ Park.

The perfect Kieran Trippier successor?

Newcastle missing out on Livramento this summer would probably not be the end of the world. The Magpies already have a really good right-back in Trippier.

He was fantastic for Howe’s side last season, especially going forward, helping them to qualify for the Champions League.

The Englishman completed 3.6 crosses per game during the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, which was the highest average in his squad (WhoScored).

However, he is turning 33 next month so, on that note, Livramento could be the ideal successor to Trippier. Like the former Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur man, the 20-year-old is also a full-back who can attack.

His ex-Southampton teammate Theo Walcott has compared him to Gareth Bale, really highlighting his offensive ability.

While Newcastle seem reluctant to pay the kind of money the Saints want for Livramento, he looks worth it. The ex-Chelsea player could come in and make an impact now but also later down the line given his age.

That could be the Magpies sorted for the next 10 years in the right-back position if they do go on to sign Livramento. All in all, the Southampton star will not be cheap this summer, but he could still be a very smart addition to Howe’s squad.
