Newcastle United need new faces in the January transfer window – and it sounds like Niklas Sule joining is now a major possibility.

Eddie Howe is in as Newcastle manager, and with a director of football on the way in too, the Magpies are starting to make moves.

Newcastle must bring in new central defenders to solidify their back line, and one exciting signing has been touted.

Calciomercato claim that Newcastle are in talks with the agent of Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule.

Newcastle World back that claim up, suggesting that Sule is interested in a move to St James’ Park during the January window.

That report adds that Chelsea are also keen, meaning this could be a massive coup for Newcastle if they can pull it off.

Sule could be Newcastle coup

Sule would be a massive capture anyway.

The 26-year-old is a colossal figure at 6ft 5in tall, and has racked up 150 appearances for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

With four Bundesliga titles and 37 Germany caps to his name, Sule has established himself as a quality defender for club and country.

Newcastle are battling against relegation, so having a defender of Sule’s quality could have a Virgil van Dijk-style impact on the Magpies back line.

Add in that Chelsea – the current Champions League holders – also want Sule, and this could be a massive statement of intent from Newcastle.

If Sule really is keen, Newcastle and their new owners must push the boat out. Beating Chelsea to an established signing in the first transfer window of this new era would show that Newcastle mean business, sending a warning throughout the Premier League.
