Newcastle United want Moises Caicedo having actually missed out on the midfielder before his move to Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Magpies are bound to be linked with Brighton players.
Not only did the Magpies snap up Dan Burn from the Seagulls in January, but they then lured technical director Dan Ashworth to St James’ Park too.
There have been links to the likes of Leandro Trossard and Robert Sanchez in recent memory but Caicedo may be the strongest Brighton to Newcastle rumour.

Newcastle United want Moises Caicedo
The Mirror claimed in October that Newcastle are interested in signing Caicedo but faced a huge £85million outlay for the Ecuador star.
Ashworth was with Brighton when they signed Caicedo from Independiente del Valle for just £4.5million in 2021, so he knows Caicedo well.
The 21-year-old has now become a Premier League star though and Brighton are expecting hefty profit if they sell him.
The Sun now claim that Brighton’s asking price is closer to £70million.
It’s also stated that Newcastle actually made calls to try and sign Caicedo from Independiente del Valle, as did Manchester United.
However, both clubs missed out as Brighton had already laid the groundwork for a deal.
The irony of that for Newcastle is that Ashworth was a key part of that move and they now face paying a huge mark-up on the price they could have paid.
Caicedo has not only impressed in the Premier League – being hailed as ‘magnificent’ by Jamie Redknapp – but now at the World Cup too having turned in great displays for Ecuador.
It seems unlikely that Newcastle will make any huge signings in January, so we can’t really see a deal materialising next month.
Caicedo is a name to keep close tabs on for next summer though, especially if Newcastle qualify for European football.
