Newcastle United want Mohammed Salisu again and could finally secure his signature after missing out just over a year ago.
The Magpies spent big on a left-sided centre back last summer with Sven Botman arriving from Lille.
Yet Newcastle could look to add another one this summer – even with Dan Burn able to play that role too.
One name back in the mix once again is Southampton defender Salisu.
The Mirror claim that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is a huge fan of Salisu and wants to bring him to St James’ Park.
It’s suggested that Salisu is expected to leave Southampton this summer and and Newcastle think they can turn him into a star.
Salisu is out of contract in 2024 and it may be in Southampton’s best interests to sell this summer before his value diminishes any further.

Newcastle United could finally sign Mohammed Salisu
If Salisu’s name rings a bell for Newcastle fans, it’s because the Magpies targeted his signature last year.
90Min reported that Newcastle attempted to sign Salisu in January 2022 bu the deal collapsed.
Talks were held over a huge £40million deal but Southampton’s takeover meant that the deal was scrapped in the end.
Newcastle then turned to Botman but have seemingly kept Salisu on their radar for a future move.
You can be sure that any deal now would be worth much, much less than £40million.
The Sun even suggest that the fee could be be just £15million – £25million less than the deal Newcastle were chasing.
The 23-year-old has started 21 Premier League game this season but could be sold this summer.
Salisu has plenty of potential and Howe may believe that he can unlock the Ghanaian centre back at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have shown a willingness to wait for targets, as seen with Botman last year, and we could see Salisu finally join the Magpies nearly 18 months since they first tried.
