Newcastle United’s Mohamed Diame has been in brilliant form for Rafael Benitez’s side recently.

Newcastle United’s resurgent midfielder Mohamed Diame has admitted to the Shields Gazette that he was finding things difficult over the early stages of the campaign.

Diame was performing well below par in the early months of the season, with Newcastle fans beginning to get on his back.

However, the 30-year-old has been one of Rafael Benitez’s side’s star players in recent weeks.

Diame has added steel to Newcastle’s midfield and created a very strong partnership alongside Jonjo Shelvey.

And Diame believes that his turnaround is due to him working very hard in training.

“As I’ve said before, it wasn’t easy for me, but I kept working, and I feel better every game,” Diame said.

“Hopefully, I can be a regular for the rest of the season and give a good performance.

“You need to work hard in training and make it a difficult choice for the manager as to who makes his starting XI.”

Diame now looks to have established his place in Newcastle’s starting line-up, with the Senegalese international drawing great praise.
