Cal Roberts is hoping to catch the eye of Football League managers, as he looks to impress for Newcastle United’s development side.

Roberts scored during Newcastle’s under 23 side’s first game of the season, as he helped them pick up a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
And the winger says that he is hoping to impress for the development squads, as he looks to catch the eye of Rafael Benitez or another senior manager.
“It’s always nice to start the season with a goal – but definitely I need to add more goals and assists to my game,” Roberts admitted.
“It’s goals and assists which get wingers and forwards noticed the most – be it to get a loan move, or to impress the first-team manager, because that’s what he [Benitez] is going to be looking for.”
Roberts was part of Newcastle’s first-team squad over pre-season, and impressed in their friendly matches.

However, the youngster appears to have been dropped back down into the development side now.
Whether Roberts will have a chance to break back into Newcastle’s first-team this season remains to be seen, as Benitez has plenty of other options out wide.
Roberts has already been on loan spells with Gateshead and Kilmarnock over his career so far.
