Newcastle United supporters have been desperate for Rafael Benitez to be given some money to spend in the transfer market.

According to The Sun, Newcastle United are in the running for Ryan Bertrand, which represents a significant shift in transfer policy from last season.

However, the signs are encouraging that Rafael Benitez may just have money to spend at the end of the season.

Newcastle are currently being linked with Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand, who is said to be available for £25 million.

Whether Newcastle will win the race for the defender remains to be seen, but the links are encouraging regardless.

If Benitez does have £25 million to spend on a left-back, it appears that the Spanish boss will finally be backed with the funds required to make the changes to his squad that he has been desperate for.

And this summer may finally be the one where Newcastle do start showing ambition in the transfer market, if the Bertrand links are anything to go by.
