Newcastle United are moving for Maximo Perrone amid claims that Velez Sarsfield sent their sporting director to England to discuss the deal.
The Magpies have been making some smart, calculated signings since their takeover last year.
Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Bruno Guimaraes… Newcastle’s transfer business has been outstanding.
Dan Ashworth is also looking for talents of the future though and has already shown that with a deal for Australian wonderkid Garang Kuol.

Velez Sarsfield talent Maximo Perrone has become a prime target for Newcastle.
Velez670 reported earlier this month that Newcastle were planning a first offer to sign Perrone in 2023.
That rumour has been accelerating and Diario Popular claimed that Newcastle opened talks with Velez and Perrone’s agent.
Velez A Fondo – as translated by Newcastle World – now report that sporting director Christian Bassedas headed to England just a matter of days ago to negotiate a sale of Perrone.
Newcastle fans will immediately recognise the name of Bassedas.
Bassedas joined Newcastle from Velez himself back in 2000 but made little impact in three years with the Magpies.
Now sporting director at Velez, Bassedas has allegedly headed to England to try and sell Perrone to Newcastle.
Midfielder Perrone has shown huge potential and, as quoted by Goal, Velez boss Gabriel Heinze has branded Perrone as ‘spectacular’.
The 19-year-old is a combative defensive midfielder and Newcastle clearly see a huge future for him in the Premier League.
Perrone has played 33 first-team games foe Newcastle whilst picking up three goals and two assists – as well as a hefty 13 yellow cards.
It’s unclear how talks with Bassedas went but Velez A Fondo seem very confident that the Argentinian made the trip over to discuss a deal.
Newcastle may hope that Bassedas having history with them – even if under a very different regime – can help them secure Perrone’s signature.
