Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi isn’t planning to leave any time soon despite links with a move to Newcastle United in 2022.

Mere hours after Newcastle’s long-awaited takeover went through, rumours about new signings starting gathering pace.

Calciomercato reported that Newcastle have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign PSG striker Icardi.

Juventus are thought to be keen too, with Icardi something of a bit-part player at PSG.

The 28-year-old has started four league games, coming off the bench in another four. The Argentinian isn’t a first-choice player under Mauricio Pochettino, possibly strengthening Newcastle hopes.

Romano shares information on Newcastle target Icardi

PSG splashed £45million for Icardi in 2020, and would likely expect a large part of that outlay back.

Fabrizio Romano has now offered an update on Icardi, claiming he doesn’t want to leave PSG in the coming months.

A January exit is seemingly off the table for Icardi, who wants to stay in the French capital and fight for his place.

If Newcastle want to land a striker in January, the ‘world class’ Icardi may not be their man.

If they are willing to wait until the summer though, maybe they have a chance of signing Icardi.

As the striker approaches 29, he will have to think about first-team playing time. If it doesn’t come at PSG under compatriot Pochettino, maybe Newcastle can tempt him at the end of the season.
