Newcastle United considered a late move to sign midfielder Marcel Sabitzer on deadline day but he only had eyes for Manchester United.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claim that Newcastle considered the opportunity of signing Sabitzer late in the window.
Bayern Munich were willing to let Sabitzer go out on loan and Newcastle were in the market for another midfield player.
The Magpies seemingly thought about a move but decided not to try and hijack Sabitzer’s move to Manchester United.
Romano claims that Sabitzer was desperate to join the Red Devils and all other offers seemingly weren’t considered.
Romano adds that Sabitzer is ‘in love’ with Ten Hag’s approach to football, so any Newcastle hijack attempt would have been pretty much pointless.
“We also had some rumours on Newcastle because they were looking for that kind of player and they considered that kind of opportunity,” he added.
“But they decided also not to proceed because Sabitzer was super keen on joining Manchester United, in love with Erik ten Hag’s ideas of football, and so this is why for Sabitzer, the hijack was refused, nothing was in danger,” he added.

Marcel Sabitzer can secure long-term Premier League future after Newcastle interest
Sabitzer has joined United until the end of the season and came off the bench to make his debut against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Austrian may now be in line for a major role though.
Casemiro’s red card against Palace is a major hit to United’s midfield ranks whilst Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen are both injured.
Sabitzer may now be needed to start twice against Leeds United this week, putting him in at the deep end for United.
The 28-year-old has only started seven league games for Bayern this season but he will now have the chance to push for a permanent move to England.
If Sabitzer impresses for United, the Red Devils may well chase a permanent deal – or Newcastle could have another look into signing him.
Newcastle do need more midfield quality, as seen by their displays without Bruno Guimaraes, with Sabitzer possibly a name to keep tabs on for the summer.
