Jamie Carragher has raved about Newcastle United’s Joelinton on Sky Sports Premier League (10:16pm, December 27, 2021) for his performance against Manchester United at St. James’ Park.
The Sky Sports pundit could not contain himself while analysing Joelinton’s performance for Newcastle on Monday Night Football.
Eddie Howe’s side played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Monday evening.
Praise for Joelinton
Carragher said about Joelinton on Sky Sports Premier League (10:16pm, December 27, 2021), as transcribed by The Chronicle: “He was brilliant. I must be honest, the last few weeks you hear supporters who watch Newcastle every game about how well he’s been doing midfield and sometimes you think well he hasn’t done so well at the top end of the pitch, and he’s just done okay in midfield.
“But that was an outstanding midfield performance by any standard and I mean any standard in terms of any midfield play.
“If you put in a performance like that against Manchester United we’ll be raving about it and rightly so, he’s man of the match.
“Running with the ball, he was a goal threat, winning the ball back – everything involved. The power, the strength he showed.”
Impressive perfomance
Joelinton is a forward, but Newcastle manager Howe has been using him in a deeper role.
Against Manchester United on Monday evening, the 25-year-old started in midfield.
And he was superb.
The Brazilian was a force to be reckoned with.
Joelinton worked extremely hard, close down the opposition, drove the team forward, and made himself an imposing figure in the middle of the park.
Manchester United simply could not cope with Joelinton.
The Newcastle man took two shots, played four key passes, had a pass accuracy of 78.4%, won one header, took 65 touches, attempted one dribble, made four tackles and three interceptions, and put in two crosses.
