Newcastle United and Manchester United are considered to be at the front of the queue for Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.

That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (12/03, p70), who claim that both Premier League clubs are very interested.

It’s suggested that Manchester United have now scouted Veiga on four occasions since January and Newcastle watched him again just last week.

The report claims that Veiga currently has a £35million release clause in his Celta contract.

However, agent Pini Zahavi is now in talks with Celta to alter that release clause and the club want to increase it to £70million.

That means Newcastle and Manchester United may face paying a huge price to sign the Spanish midfielder this summer.

Who is Newcastle United and Manchester United target Gabri Veiga?

Galicia-born Veiga has come up through the Celta Vigo ranks and has now become a first-team star.

Veiga was barely on the radar of other clubs before the start of this season but he has become a sensation this term.

The 20-year-old has now racked up eight goals and three assists in just 24 La Liga games this season.

Veiga currently has one cap for Spain’s Under-21’s and senior caps are expected in the near future after such an incredible season.

Veiga is a real box-to-box midfielder who can make a real impact breaking into the box.

Hailed as ‘amazing’ by Spanish newspaper SPORT, Veiga has taken Spanish football by storm this season.

Newcastle will have money to spend this summer and are no doubt looking for top talents around Europe.

Veiga fits the bill and could become another top midfielder alongside Bruno Guimaraes in the Newcastle engine room.

This deal won’t be cheap though and with Manchester United also keen, this could be a real battle.
