Newcastle United are interested in signing Arthur Vermeeren but face a battle with Manchester United for the Royal Antwerp talent.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that interest in Vermeeren is already mounting.

Vermeeren signed a contract until 2026, celebrating his 18th birthday with a new deal just a few days ago.

Yet it’s suggested that Manchester United have already registered their interest in Vermeeren and Newcastle United are interested too.

Other Premier League clubs are keen too, with Antwerp facing a battle to hold onto their teenage talent for the foreseeable future.

However, the report claims that Antwerp are seeking around £20million for Vermeeren, meaning nay interested club will have to dig very deep.

Who is Newcastle United target Arthur Vermeeren?

Vermeeren has come up through the Antwerp ranks and was given his first senior appearance against Lillestrom in August.

Antwerp manager Mark van Bommel – a notable midfielder in his playing days – appears to have taken a real liking to Vermeeren.

The 18-year-old has now played 11 league games for Antwerp this season but is yet to register a goal or an assist.

Primarily a holding midfield player who can dictate the game and break up play in front of the back four, Vermeeren has been earning rave reviews.

Vermeeren has even been compared to Andres Iniesta over in Belgium, which is enormous praise.

Vermeeren looks set for a huge future and is likely to earn a big move away form Belgium one day.

Manchester United and Newcastle United are seemingly hoping that his move comes sooner rather than later, and we could see the duo fight it out for Vermeeren in the summer.
