According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Newcastle United are lining up a bid for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers.

Newcastle are hopeful of signing Chambers on loan for a season, and it could be a very smart move from Rafael Benitez’s side.

Chambers’ progress this season went under the radar, but he was very impressive at Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old was unable to save Boro from relegation, but he was one of their most reliable defenders.

And, given that Chambers is now settled in the North East and has a year’s extra experience behind him, the England international looks capable of hitting the ground running if he is to move to Newcastle.

Newcastle are known to be looking for defensive additions this summer, and Chambers ability to play at right-back or in a more central role, makes him and appealing target.

And although Chambers’ arrival at Newcastle may not send shockwaves throughout the Premier League, he could be a very valuable addition for Benitez’s men.
