Lucien Favre has indicated that he is interested in becoming the next Newcastle United manager – even though Steve Bruce hasn’t yet been sacked.
That’s according to the Northern Echo, who claim that Favre has indicated his interest in the job.
Favre has allegedly used intermediaries to tell Newcastle that he is keen on a move to St James’ Park.
Bruce is expected to lose his job this week, mere days after Newcastle’s huge takeover was confirmed.
The search for his replacement already appears to be on, and Favre has thrown his hat into the ring.
The 63-year-old has been out of management since leaving Borussia Dortmund in December 2020.
An experienced coach with 366 wins from 744 games as a coach, Favre has managed in Switzerland, Germany and France and now fancies a move to England.

Favre allegedly didn’t like Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin
One intriguing note on Favre is that he has managed Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin before.
The duo worked together at Nice, and Favre allegedly wasn’t a big fan.
Nice Matin reported in 2019 that Favre demanded Nice sell Saint-Maximin back to Monaco after just one training session, as explained by GFFN.
Favre wasn’t a fan of Saint-Maximin at all initially, but the numbers actually aren’t so bad.
Saint-Maximin played 38 games under Favre, notching five goals and nine assists.
Saint-Maximin seemed to win Favre over, and the Newcastle winger appears a more mature and committed player than he once was.
That should make him much more popular with Favre this time around, if the Swiss coach is to join Newcastle.
