Newcastle United have signed Loris Karius but the passing of Queen Elizabeth II means the Magpies are holding off from announcing the deal.
The Magpies made a number of moves in their goalkeeping department this summer.
Freddie Woodman was sold to Preston North End before Nick Pope arrived from Burnley.
Pope has immediately become Newcastle’s first-choice stopper, leaving Martin Dubravka to consider his future before joining Manchester United on loan.
That left Karl Darlow as the main cover for Pope, but his ankle injury has forced Newcastle to explore the free agent market.

Newcastle United have signed Loris Karius
Reports in recent days have linked Newcastle with a deal for Loris Karius.
Yes, the former Liverpool goalkeeper now looks set for a shock Premier League return after his torrid time at Anfield.
The German famously dropped not one but two clangers in the 2018 Champions League final, prompting a big-money deal for Alisson.
Karius was never able to recover, spending time on loan at Besiktas and Union Berlin before his Liverpool deal ended this summer.
Now a free agent, Karius is understood to have signed his Newcastle deal and completed all the formalities ahead of his move.
However, The Chronicle claim that Newcastle are holding off from announcing the deal due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen’s passing on Thursday evening has halted Premier League action for this weekend, and there are doubts about next weekend’s fixtures too.
Newcastle have now decided that now isn’t the right time to announce a new signing, preferring to hold off whilst immediate tributes are paid.
The Magpies want to be respectful in this period of national mourning and are taking a sensible approach in holding back an announcement.
When Karius does have his move confirmed, the German will serve as backup to Pope on a deal that is likely to run until January but with the option for an extension.
It’s doubtful that Karius will suddenly have a Premier League redemption arc but he can offer experienced cover behind Pope for the coming months.
