Newcastle United signed Florian Lejeune from Eibar during the summer transfer window.

Mikel Merino’s move from Borussia Dortmund to Newcastle United has been widely credited as one of the best signings of the summer, but Rafael Benitez may have pulled off a similar trick with Florian Lejeune.
Lejeune has not attracted the same attention that Merino has so far, but the French defender’s quiet excellence suggests that he could have been a real value-for-money buy too.

Newcastle paid £8.7 million to sign Lejeune from Eibar in the previous transfer window, according to The Sun, and the deal could be a real bargain.
Lejeune endured a slow start at Newcastle, due to injury, but he has come into Rafael Benitez’s first-team recently and looked very assured.

Although Lejeune did give away a penalty against Southampton, that is the only blot on his copybook so far.
And if Lejeune continues to form a solid pairing with Jamaal Lascelles in the heart of Newcastle’s defence, then his value is only set to rise over the future months.
