Kevin Mbabu did not feature for Newcastle United in their promotion campaign, instead being sent out on loan to Swiss side Young Boys.
He has helped the club to a creditable second place in the top flight behind FC Basel, and his performances have caught the eye.
Newcastle fan site The Mag report via a press release from Edge Technology, that Mbabu has been recorded registering the second fastest speed in football.
It is claimed Mbabu was clocked at 36.1 k/ph, a speed only bettered by Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale – 36.9 k/ph.

Mbabu is a former Swiss youth international who plays in defence. This season he has figured mainly at right-back, but in the game he registered the top speed he was playing on the wing.
News of Mbabu’s speed may interest another right-back at Newcastle, the jet heeled DeAndre Yedlin, who could have renewed competition when the pair return together for pre-season.
The fact Mbabu, 22, has been getting regular football is of obvious benefit to both him and Newcastle. If the Toon can’t offer him a fair crack at being a part of the first team squad next season then it would make sense for him to push for an exit.
