Adam Armstrong has told Blackburn Rovers’ club website he is proud of his achievements with the club this season.

Armstrong has played a key role for Rovers to help them win promotion to the Championship.

He signed for the club mid-season and has scored nine goals in 20 games for Blackburn in League One.

Armstrong has struggled to break through into Newcastle United’s first team and is proud of helping Blackburn achieve something substantial.

He said: “I said when I came here that I wanted to get promoted and it’s been a nice relief to get there in the end.

“I’ve won tournaments with England but have never achieved anything at club level. Every player wants to win promotions and to get one already at my age is brilliant.”

Armstrong missed out on winning promotion with Newcastle United from the Championship last season because he was out on loan at Barnsley.

His time at Blackburn has given his career the jolt it needed after two disappointing spells on loan in the Championship with Barnsley and Bolton Wanderes where he scored seven goals combined.

Previously in League One he had scored 20 goals for Coventry City and Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez may still want to see more from the 21-year-old to see if he can play a part at Newcastle.

Sending him on loan to Blackburn next season would give him a third chance to crack the Championship and prove he may be ready to step up to the Premier League and the continuity of staying at Ewood Park could be good for his career.
