Newcastle United are expected to be active in the summer transfer window.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are already lining up summer signings, with Rafael Benitez keen to add to his current squad at St. James’ Park.

Ben Gibson

Gibson has been one of Middlesbrough’s star performers this season, with his rock solid performances earning him a call up to Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.

Boro may be in the relegation zone in the Premier League, but their defence has been excellent throughout the season and Gibson has been crucial to that.

The centre-back is already settled in the North East, and Newcastle may be able to persuade him to move to St. James’ Park if they are promoted.

Jack Wilshere

Bournemouth's Jack Wilshere

Wilshere’s future at Arsenal is currently up in the air, with the 25-year-old currently out on loan at Bournemouth.

Wilshere is set to return to the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season, and it is unclear whether Arsene Wenger plans to keep him or sell him in the summer.

Wilshere has not been a stand out performer for Bournemouth this season, but he certainly has a lot of quality – when he stays fit.

And Newcastle may feel that they have a chance of convincing Wilshere that a move to St. James’ Park would be good for his career.

Demarai Gray

Gray has shown flashes of brilliance at Leicester City this season, but he has failed to hold down a place in the Foxes’ starting line-up.

The youngster has been used fleetingly, with many of his appearances coming off the substitutes’ bench.

Newcastle may be able to offer Gray a starting role, and his arrival on Tyneside would be a real statement of intent from Benitez’s side.
