Newcastle United may have to pay as much as £50 million to sign Sven Botman from Lille in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
Sky Sports have reported that Newcastle and AC Milan are interested in signing Botman from Lille this month.
The defending French champions valued the 21-year-old central defender at more than £27 million in the summer of 2021 and do not want to sell the Dutchman now.
The report has added that Lille could ask for £50 million to sell Botman in January.
Joelinton is Newcastle’s club-record signing at £40m, which means that Botman could become a new record arrival at Newcastle if they have to pay £50m.
What should Newcastle do about Sven Botman?
In our view, Newcastle should pay the reported £50 million transfer fee to sign Botman from Lille.
The Magpies are very poor defensively and need reinforcements at the back.

Botman is a very good and promising centre-back who has been claimed to be even better than Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.
Yes, Botman is only 21, but he has been playing top-flight football for a while now and can only get better in the coming years.
In our opinion, Newcastle should make a bid and see what happens.
Newcastle have the world’s richest football owners, so money is not a problem for the Premier League club.
