Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Torino defender Koffi Djidji alongside teammate Gleison Bremer this month.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Djidji has been ‘floated’ to Newcastle as a possible signing this month.
Djidji, 29, has played 15 Serie A games this season but now has less than 18 months left on his contract.
Torino seem willing to sell now before his value declines, especially as he turns 30 in November.
Djidji was born in France but has chosen to represent the Ivory Coast, even though he doesn’t have an actual cap to his name.
This appears to be very underwhelming for Newcastle, but this smacks of an agent just trying to get a slice of the pie at St James’ Park.
With vast riches available thanks to PIF, agents have been touting their players to Newcastle for months now.
Djidji is an average-at-best Serie A defender and has shown little to suggest he would be any better than Newcastle’s current options.
Newcastle need quality defenders who can make an immediate impact in the fight against relegation.
The likes of Diego Carlos, Sven Botman and Nico Schlotterbeck all make sense, with the latter two especially having huge potential.

Djidji just doesn’t fit the bill for Newcastle based on his time in Italy.
Whilst Djidji has been put forward to Newcastle, the Magpies surely won’t be pursuing a deal.
Teammate Bremer is mentioned too, and that one seems much more realistic for Newcastle.
The Brazilian has been one of the top centre backs in Serie A this year and could be on the move this summer.
Corriere Granata reported last week that Newcastle had failed with a €30million (£25million) bid for Bremer.
Whether Newcastle go back in is another matter, but he’s surely a more likely signing than Djidji this month.
