Atletico Madrid are expected to reject Newcastle United’s first bid for Kieran Trippier – and the Magpies still have an issue with his contract.
The Athletic report that Newcastle have made a formal bid for Trippier as they attempt to make him their first January signing.
Eddie Howe is desperate to get Trippier in having worked together at Burnley in the past.
However, Atletico are expected to snub Newcastle’s first bid for Trippier, seemingly seeking more cash to accept the move.
Additionally, it’s suggested that whilst Trippier has all but agreed to join Newcastle, there is one lingering issue.
The problem is that Newcastle haven’t managed to reach an agreement on clauses in terms of what happens if the Magpies are relegated.
Whether that’s wage decreases or even release clauses, Newcastle would need to sort out what Trippier’s situation would be if the worst happens.

As much as Newcastle’s new era has huge potential, this is the kind of thing they have to worry about now.
Newcastle are in real danger of going down, and Trippier won’t want to be playing in the Championship.
That just shows how much work Newcastle still have to do here.
They not only have to convince Atletico to sell, but also need to offer Trippier the protection he needs.
Without those things, Trippier won’t be a Newcastle player this month.
