Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier scored again on Sunday afternoon, but is now in a protective boot after picking up a worrying injury.
The Magpies beat Aston Villa 1-0 at St James’ Park this afternoon, with Trippier firing the only goal of the game with a deflected free kick.
That came just days after Trippier rifled home a superb free kick to seal a 3-1 win over Everton.
So far, Trippier has been an unbelievable bargain at £12million and a perfect signing to start this new project at St James’ Park.
Trippier’s immense quality from dead balls gave Newcastle a real weapon in the fight against relegation, with today’s goal the latest example.
It felt like a risk to play Trippier given that he was a doubt before the game, and Newcastle’s worst fears may now have been realized.
Trippier was stamped on during the game and had to be substituted just after half time. On came Emil Krafth, helping Newcastle keep a clean sheet in a vital win.
Newcastle fans will be fearing the worst for Trippier, and the latest news doesn’t sound all that encouraging for him.

The Shields Gazette report that Trippier has been sent for an X-ray and has used crutches and a protective boot since.
That doesn’t sound ideal for Trippier, who may now be facing a spell on the sidelines with the games coming thick and fast for Newcastle.
Newcastle face big games against West Ham United, Brentford and Brighton in the next three, with Trippier now in danger of missing them all.
Newcastle simply have to hope that Trippier is at least back before the end of the season, as losing him for the rest of the campaign would be a hammer blow.
