Newcastle United have held surprise talks with former England captain John Terry as they look to find a new manager to replace Steve Bruce.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Terry has been spoken to by Newcastle’s new owners ahead of a possible move to Tyneside.
It’s stated that Roberto Martinez is keen on the job, Frank Lampard has had talks, Eddie Howe fancies the move and both Lucien Favre and Paulo Fonseca are in contention.
Yet many will be intrigued by the claims that Terry has had talks with Newcastle.
That seemingly hasn’t been mentioned before, and puts Terry in contention to land the Newcastle job after Steve Bruce’s exit.
Terry would be a huge gamble for Newcastle
You can understand PIF wanting a big name in charge, and Terry is certainly that from his playing days.
Make no mistake though, this would be a huge gamble for Newcastle.
Terry has coached at Aston Villa have been signed – somewhat ironically – by Steve Bruce, the man Newcastle sacked.
Yet he hasn’t been a manager in his own right yet, and throwing him into this job with no experience could be catastrophic.
Newcastle are clearly in a battle against the drop this season, and going with a rookie manager in Terry would be a gamble to say the very least.
We doubt that Terry will get the Newcastle job, but PIF are clearly casting their net far and wide in search of a new manager.
