Newcastle United are expected to hold further talks with Manchester City’s Jason Wilcox ahead of a possible move to St James’ Park.

That’s according to the Daily Star, who claim that Wilcox is a top target to become director of football at Newcastle.

Newcastle’s new owners have also spoken to Ajax’s Marc Overmars and fancy former Lille and Monaco man Luis Campos.

They’re both bigger names than Wilcox, but the Manchester City man is thought to be the frontrunner at Newcastle.

Wilcox will now hold further talks with Newcastle to try and trash out a deal with the Magpies.

Who is Newcastle target Jason Wilcox?

Wilcox will be remembered from his playing days having won the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers.

The 50-year-old also earned three caps for England before turning his hand to coaching.

Wilcox was City’s Under-18 boss from 2013 to 2016, before then becoming Head of Academy Coaching.

Wilcox has now been City’s Academy Manager since October 2017, and could make a big move to Newcastle.

Becoming director of football at Newcastle would be a big step for Wilcox and quite a different career move, as it will require different skills.

That could be a gamble for Newcastle, especially when proven talent spotters like Overmars and Campos are wanted, but they must see something in Wilcox.
