Newcastle United are interested in snapping up Lyon defender Jason Denayer as they desperately seek additions at the back in the January window.
Sky Sports claim that Denayer is one of the defenders on Newcastle’s transfer wish list ahead of next month’s window.
This will be a vital window for Newcastle, and they simply have to find new centre backs for Eddie Howe to work with.
Ciaran Clark is struggling and Howe clearly needs greater options if he is to keep Newcastle in the Premier League.
Denayer, 27, represents a potential signing for Newcastle given that his Lyon contract expires at the end of the season.
Who is Newcastle target Jason Denayer?
Denayer joined Manchester City from the JMG Academy in 2008, but never made a competitive appearance for City.
Still, The Times note that Denayer has been branded as the ‘new Vincent Kompany’.
So far, the 26-year-old hasn’t quite emulated his fellow Belgian and will need an incredible few years to justify it.

Denayer starred alongside Virgil van Dijk at Celtic in the 2014-15 season and also spent two spells with Galatasaray.
Between those two spells in Turkey, Denayer actually spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan at Newcastle’s bitter rivals Sunderland.
That may mean Denayer is open to returning to the North East, and he has largely impressed in over 120 appearances for Lyon.
Quick, strong and of a good age at 26, Denayer could be a smart signing for Newcastle in a cheap move.
