Newcastle United are thought to be an option – albeit an unlikely one – for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic when the summer transfer window opens.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Newcastle could be a destination for the Croatian if he is to leave Inter this summer.
It’s stated that Europe’s top clubs aren’t particularly interested in signing Perisic this summer, with those teams likely to go with a younger options.
That means Newcastle are talked up as a possible option for Perisic, but any approach from the Magpies is ‘likely to be unwelcome’ for the Inter star.
Perisic is seemingly aiming higher than Newcastle, but let’s see if those kind of offers actually arrive at Perisic’s door.
After all, Perisic is now 33 and isn’t the flying winger we saw with Wolfsburg, Inter and Bayern Munich in years gone by.
Now more of a wing back at Inter, Perisic can play on either flank and still plays with great effort and intensity, meaning he could still have a Premier League career.
Hailed as ‘wonderful’ by Fabio Capello earlier this season, Perisic is still making an impact for Inter but is out of contract at the end of the season.

You can understand Newcastle looking at any big-name free agent as they look to build up their squad, but Perisic may not really fit what they’re seeking.
Matt Targett is shining at left back for Newcastle and Allan Saint-Maximin is still one of the star attractions at Newcastle on the left of midfield.
Where does Perisic fit into that? It’s hard to see Perisic becoming a key Newcastle player when he’s approaching 34, and he would likely command a huge singing-on fee and wage packet.
A quality player in his day, Perisic shouldn’t really be a priority for Newcastle as they plan their summer transfers.
