A free transfer move for Balotelli could fit the bill for Newcastle United this summer.
Newcastle United are in the running to sign Mario Balotelli this summer, according to bookmaker Bet Victor.
The Magpies are listed at 8/1 for the Italian’s signature – behind Serie A sides Napoli (5/1) and Roma (6/1) – despite not having been linked in the press.
Balotelli has excelled with 43 goals in 65 games for Nice, but could leave on a free transfer nonetheless.
And that could put Newcastle on alert, as they seek to replace January loan signing Islam Slimani on a potentially limited budget – although it was Magpies boss Rafa Benitez who sold Balotelli at Inter Milan.
Balotelli has previously played in the Premier League for Manchester City and Liverpool, in albeit mixed spells.
The 27-year-old won the league and FA Cup at City, but struggled at Liverpool, who loaned him to AC Milan a year after his arrival on Merseyside.
He has enjoyed a new lease of life in France, however, where he has spent the past two campaigns.
