Newcastle United’s scouts have been busy, again predictably in Holland. They have been checking out another Dutch goalkeeper.
Tim Krul is the undisputed number one at Newcastle, but his recent injuries have showcased the need for a reliable number two. Steve Harper is just that; but how long the 37-year-old has left in him remains uncertain.
So Newcastle are reported to be wisely looking at another ‘number two’, a younger pretender to Krul’s number one spot.
Jeroen Zoet is the man in question, and hold right there, before you ask who he is, here are five facts about him…
1) Zoet is 21, and plays for PSV; but he is currently on loan at fellow Eredivisie side RKC Waalwijk for a second successive season.
2) He is currently the first choice goalkeeper for Holland’s under-21 side.
3) Zoet is under contract with PSV until 2014.
4) He has saved five penalties in his short career to date, including one from former Barcelona starler Bojan Krkic in an under-19 international.
5) Zoet has already replaced Tim Krul once. He was called into the Dutch international squad as cover in September when Krul was injured, and boss Louis van Gaal said he can go onto become a regular in the squad.
