Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez reportedly wanted to sign Jason Puncheon from Crystal Palace this summer.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez may have even more reason to be frustrated if Jason Puncheon does leave Crystal Palace on loan this summer.
According to The Sun (print edition, page 60, August 19th), Puncheon can leave Palace on a temporary basis this summer.
And that should make it even more frustrating for Benitez that Newcastle were not able to agree a permanent deal.
The Sun said that Newcastle made Puncheon was high up on Benitez’s wishlist over the summer, but they were unable to get a deal done.
Newcastle simply didn’t back Benitez with the funds that he was hoping last summer, with the Magpies having to shop around for bargains.

And failing to do a deal for Puncheon may be more frustrating than most, given his apparent availability.
If Palace are prepared to let the 32-year-old leave on loan, then they surely would have been more than willing to do business with Newcastle over a permanent transfer.
But Puncheon was yet another reported transfer target who seemingly got away from Benitez, in a frustrating summer for the Spanish boss.
