Newcastle United have managed to bring in just two new players this summer.

According to the Sunderland Echo, Joe Hart wants a move to Newcastle United this summer – and that leaves Mike Ashley and Lee Charley with few excuses, if the Magpies miss out on signing the Manchester City stopper.

Newcastle fans have been left frustrated with an apparent lack of activity at St. James’ Park so far this summer.

And their annoyances have been shared by manager Rafael Benitez, who had wanted his side to complete transfers far more swiftly and efficiently, according to the Sun.

Newcastle have made just two new signings so far this summer, with Florian Lejeune and Cristian Atsu arriving on permanent deals.

One of Benitez’s top priorities is known to be bringing in a new goalkeeper, but moves for Willy Caballero and Pepe Reina have proved unsuccessful so far.

With Hart also reportedly on Newcastle’s wishlist, there is now pressure on the North East side to push a deal over the line.

Hart’s reported willingness to join Newcastle can only be a good sign, but it leaves the Magpies with little excuse if they miss out on a deal for the England international.

Newcastle simply must get the move over the line, otherwise reasonable questions over their ambitions for the upcoming campaign will understandably be raised.
